The Center for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (CTCFL, namely Chinese Language Center), founded in 1993, focuses on the promotion of Chinese language and culture teaching to international students all over the world. During the past 30 years, over 5000 international students from 120 countries have completed their Chinese language and culture learning here.
The CTCFL offers multiple-level Chinese learning from A to G to meet the needs of international students from very beginner to advanced learner. Compulsory courses and elective courses are available for each level. Normally, 20 teaching hours (1 teaching hour equals 45 minutes) per week are obtained for learning compulsory courses. The CTCFL has issued strict regulations about attendance records and examination performance. Certificate of Completion and Official Transcript will be granted to those who have kept good attendance records and passed all the examinations. Besides, Medical Chinese and Business Chinese are also specially offered according to the dominant disciplines such as business administration and medicine of HUST.
The CTCFL specially launches several short-term language programs every year including Short-term Chinese Program (SCP), 3+3 Program and Chinese Internship Program (CIP). SCP targets at non-Chinese beginners who are interested in China and Chinese language. 3+3 Program focuses on those who need oversea (esp. China) internship experience. CIP is suitable for students who are learning at the department of Chinese language in foreign universities.
